Dashboard General Options

A number of general options are available:

Layout Box

Set the box in which this panel is displayed. This can also be done from the Layout page.

Controlled By

When one panel is controlled by another, its filtered content mirrors that of its controller (except the text search). For example, if you had a chart a map and a table that all used the name data group's data you could choose one panel to be in control by setting the other two to be controller by it. Then if you add filters such as the panel's own filter, a Filter Panel and a Range Panel, when the user applies one of these filters, all of the controlled panels will react in the same way.

This is particularly usual if you have more than one panel that shows the same data in different ways, in order to make sure that the overall dashboard is consistent at all times.

Simply select a panel from the list, which shows only panels based on the same data as this one.

Note that some options become disabled for a Controlled By panel as they are no longer applicable.

Show All

If the panel's data group has a parent data group then checking this options will force all child rows of all parents to be displayed when no parent has been selected. Otherwise child rows are only displayed when a corresponding parent is selected.

Display from Hover

Check this option in order that this panel reacts to filters based on another panel having a selected record, when the user's mouse passes over rather than just when they click. This options should be used with care as it may affect performance for complex panels. Panels that are controlled by another cannot have this option set for themselves.

Auto Click

This is an advanced option. If you enter a number then when the dashboard is displayed, this panel's record will be “clicked” at the frequency you set (in 1/10ths of seconds). The click action will have the same effect as if the user had clicked the record, so all corresponding filters will be applied with each auto-click.

This has the effect of animating the dashboard. The option may be applied to panels that are not in a layout box (and so hidden). So for example you may have a list of departments in a hidden panel which has auto-click set to 5. Every half a second any charts, maps, tables and so on that are filtered by a click on the hidden panel will automatically change to the next department in list. At the end of the list it returns to the first.

Pause and Play icons are added automatically to the header of any panel controller by the auto-click panel.

Allow Refresh

If checked, an icon is added to the panel's header allowing the user to click to refresh then panel's data (in fact, all panels using the same DSD set will also be refreshed)

Allow Maximise

If checked, an icon is added to the panel's header allowing the user to click to maximise the panel display, making it full screen. This is useful for panels with a great deal of information such as lengthy tables or detailed charts.

The maximised panel has a “Minimise” button to bring the panel back to designed size.

Allow Data View

If checked, an icon is added to the panel's header allowing the user to switch the panel's contents to a Table type view of the data that is being used. An option in the Data View lets the user return to the designed view.

This is useful in allowing an optional drill into the data without taking up dashboard space or linking to a different dashboard. Filters and highlighters are reflected in the Data View.

Allow Download

If checked, an icon is added to the panel's header allowing the user to click to download the panel's data in the form of a CSV (Comma Separated Variable) text file.
