Audit Data Data Group Settings

If you use the Audit Log data group type to log fSeries data gathering activity, the Audit Data may be used to retrieve log data for use in your outputs.

Placeholder Parameters

There are many selection criteria (below) you can apply to the log data and most allow for values to be taken from input values and functions.

When you click into a setting text entry box a list of available placeholders (plus an option for a function) will be displayed top the right of the page. Click on each to insert into the entry box at the current cursor position.

You can use this to build up a value from more than one placeholder, or an individual value. You can also enter the value directly.

Selection Criteria

The following criteria may be specified to limit the logs returned. The log can get very large so be sure to limit the data you select to be a reasonable size. Use the General setting “Take” to limit the number if necessary.

From / To Date

Start and / or end log date range.

Group By

Select one of the available grouping fields. If a field is selected, only that field's values will be included and only the last date found, within the criteria. If no field is selected, all fields will be included and all rows that match the criteria.

If you group by a field you cannot include user data fields (see below)

User Id / Caller Id

Select a specific user and/or caller (a user data field) to include.

DSD

Select data for a single DSD only. User the DSD Picker to select a DSD. All logs include the DSD used to gather the data, however it is output.

Context and Context Id

The context refers to the way in which the data was used at the time of logging. For example, if it was used in an fDocs generated document the context would be fDocs and the context id would be the template's id.

Available contexts are:

  • Abandon
  • DSD (called from another DSD)
  • Discover (fData designer discovery of fields for data group schema)
  • fDocs
  • fPanels
  • fSheets
  • fSheetsDSD (directly generated)
  • fTest
  • Menu
  • Lookup
  • Security

Log Type and Value

When the Audit Log data group logs activity, the data group settings include settings for a log type and log value, which can be specified as selection criteria.

An example of how to use this is to make the Log Type “Client” and the Log Value the client's Id. You can then select all logs for a specific client id.

User Data Fields

When a log record is made, any data items in the audit log data group are saved into the log as a list of field ids and values (the user data). If this audit data is not being grouped (see above) you can specify which fields are to be included as columns on the returned data, or check the All Data option to return all of the data item value as a single text field but with line breaks between each.
