Map Panel Data

The geographical data for a map (the Map File) can be taken from the panel's designated data or from a Features File (GeoJson). Only features files that have points/areas will be offered.

The settings for Map Data are all fields that are selected from the chosen data from which different values are to be taken. Not all values are required for all map types.

Layer

Select a field whose values represent the layers of the map. Layers group together points or areas that have the same value in this field. For example, this may be the Team field, allowing different teams to have different colours and icons, and to be filtered based on the team.

Id Property

If the geographical data is being obtained from a Features File it is necessary to tie it to the data in the panel's specified data group. Select the field that will match the Id Property in the Features File.

Geographical Data Fields

If the geographical data is being obtained from the panel's data it is necessary to specify which fields in the data contain the appropriate values.

The “Use Matching Fields” button will set these fields to any in the data with similar names (e.g. lng, long or longitude for the longitude field)

Shape

The field containing the shape geometry for an area or height map.

Position

Points, Bubble and Heat maps use lat/lng positions to place the data in the map. The position may be specified in one of three ways. If each is available they are checked in this order and the first with a valid value is used.

  • Lat/Lng - latitude and longitude values of the position
  • LatLng - a single text value in the form [lat].[lng]
  • Location - text address geocoded by fMaps

If in your data you have positions as Easting/Northing values, use the ENToLatLng function to convert the values to a LatLng value, usable in the LatLng field.

Radius, Height and Weight

For Bubble, Height and Heat maps, an extra value is required to specify the radius of the bubble, height of the area or (optional) weight of heat points respectively.

Select the field that specifies the radius/height/weight factor.

Scalar

This number multiplies the radius/height/weight to scale the value to a reasonable level for use in the map. For example if the bubble radius value returned values in the range 1-4 the bubbles would be too small and indistinct to display as this would be 1-4 pixels only. Using a Scalar of, say, 10 would make the value differential visible. Similarly you may need to reduce the radius/height/weight value to a reasonable level
