Map Layers group together map data items by their value in a designated field. The field is specified in the Map Data page, however the settings for each layer are specified here.
A layer defines a number of features for its members (depending on the map type):
Layers serve several purposes and so there are several options defining its use:
The Layers page shows a list of all layers. Drag and drop to set the sequence in which they are displayed in the legend list.
Click a layer to edit its details, or click “New Layer” to add a layer. You can copy the new layer from an existing one, retaining all of its settings.
Each layer is defined by its value in the layer field. Note the special layer whose value is *. This acts as the fallback default for any layer value not added to the list of defined layers
