Network Panel

A Network Panel displays the contents of multiple data groups from the panel's data in the form of a network tree.

Each data group included is shown as a node around which its records are links to a node for each. If parent / child connected data groups are included the child data groups are shown as a node connected to its parent record.

This can produce quite complex displays but is very useful in expressing the connection between data in the DSD.

Core Node

The network graph starts form a core node at its centre. This does not relate to any data, but is the node around which all top level data groups included are linked.

Select Data Groups

The data groups in the panel's DSD are listed, indented to indicate parent/child relationships.

Check the data groups that you wish to include. Make sure you include parents where children are required.

Show Sample

Click the “Show Sample” button to display a sample of the network graph. Dummy labels are shown but the colours and radii are as they are designed.

Node Editor

On the left side of the designer page the selected data groups are listed together with the Core Node. Use the up/down arrow to the left of each to open its editor to manage how its content is displayed.

Label

This is the text shown in the node's circle. The default is the data group id, or use placeholders to construct label.

Name Field

[Not required for the Core Node]

Select the field to be used as the labels or tooltip for the node's records.

Radius

By default nodes are sized automatically with the Core node larger than data group nodes. Use this setting to vary the radius of the nodes from the defaults, perhaps to give more emphasis to certain data groups.

Colour

By default, the colours will be set from your account's theme palette, however you can use this setting to specify the colour of the node and its records.

Show Labels

[Not required for the Core Node]

Check to show the node's record's Name Field values on the graph. fPanels will attempt to display them but will use an algorithm to keep the graph reasonably clear from clutter. If unchecked the Name Field's value will be a tooltip, displayed when rolling your mouse over the item.

Content Commands Panel

[Not available for the Core Node]

Content Commands in other panel types take actions when the user clicks on a record. As a network contains multiple data groups the commands are likely to be different for different data groups.

You can therefore select another panel (visible or hidden) whose content commands are executed when the user clicks on a record from the current data group.
